Dell Drivers and Keeping Them Updated

by Jeff

So what’s the deal with Dell being so difficult in allowing their users to download their drivers?  Well, it’s not that the process is difficult by any means…

I know for a fact that I could stumble on to their site and download the drivers piece of cake.  But that’s because I deal with drivers on a daily basis.  It’s my job to talk about Driver Genius and why it’s a good program, so I must be good with drivers.

Funny Story About Drivers

I do have a funny story to tell though… my cousin had an older camera that she bought around 4 years ago.  She had bought a new Dell laptop a couple of months ago and could not get the camera to work.

She spent hours and hours trying to get her brand new Dell computer to recognize the camera.  but let’s face it – computer novices really don’t know what they’re doing 90% of the time.

If the camera isn’t working, they assume that it’s either broken or the computer simply isn’t working and they need a Mac instead (bad decision).

She called me after a few days later telling me what the issue was.  I made my way over to her house and began to do some work.

Immediately I could tell that it was a driver issue, not Dell.  The fact is, Dell is just a manufacturer.  Windows is on all of these computer no matter the manufacturer.  She simply needed to download a Windows 7 version of the driver and the camera would work perfectly.

So that’s exactly what we did.  Except it took me around 20 minutes to find the exact driver for her exact model…

Dell DriversBut let’s take a 62 year brand new computer user who’s never been on the internet (yes, nearly 50% of America is still offline… hard to believe ain’t it).  And let’s assume that they bought a Dell computer because their friend who also has a Dell recommended it.

Do you honestly expect this person who has never used a computer before, let alone the internet, to be able to navigate to the Dell website and download the drivers needed to keep their PC running smoothly?

Yea right…

Chances are they’ll get lost on MSN and have no idea where to click the mouse.

Why Driver Genius Is Useful

This is why software such as Driver Genius continues to gain momentum and popularity simply because people don’t know how to navigate to manufacturer websites and download the updates that their computer needs.

What’s even more shocking is that a lot of computer owners will toss their computer when it starts freezing and throwing out errors on a daily basis.  Pretty sad huh but you don’t see Dell or Gateway or Microsoft complaining.

They love the profits.

And who could blame them?  If I ran a computer manufacturing site like Dell.com, I’d probably make it nearly impossible to download drivers.  I’d rather have them turn in the computer and get the latest upgrade!

Actually I wouldn’t do that because I’m simply not a cruel individual.  I love helping people and from being in the computer repair business for several years, I can tell you right now that drivers are the number one cause of computer conflict and error.

Driver Genius (click here to visit the product page) allows people like you and me that don’t want to search around the internet an opportunity to update their drivers with a click of a button.  No more downloading, searching for the right version, and installing hassle.  Just run the program and let it do the work.

Once the drivers are downloaded, it will automatically install them for you with no other work on your part.  I use it, thousands of other use it and so should you.

Thanks for reading and if you have any questions at all, feel free to comment below and I will promptly respond.
