What Is Driver Genius?
Driver Genius 11 is a program whose sole purpose is to keep your system and the hardware you have up-to-date to avoid computer conflicts. It is commonly used to fix PC problems due to errors that may occur from out-dated drivers.

The Setup
The first step is to download the installer to any location on your computer. When you open the installer, it will walk you through the setup process which is fast.

How To Update
As you can see in the screen above, there is an option to backup your drivers. It is vital that you do this just in-case your computer has any issues with new drivers.

After the program has completed the backup task, the next step is to click the Update Drivers button.
Here is where the software will do a bulk of it’s work – it is going to do a complete scan of all the drivers installed on your computer.
It will then take note of these drivers and begin it’s search online in the database. It will search for newer versions of the drivers that you currently have installed on your system.
Once Driver Genius has downloaded the new driver files for your system, it will then present you a new screen with an explanation of the new drivers and the option of installing them.
Did you remember to backup your drivers? Make sure you do this before installing the new drivers!
There is also an updater so that you can check for free updates whenever you wish. A new version is released every year which you will be able to install for free.
Quick Run-down
Here’s the exact process I use when I fire up the software:
- I try to do this at least every other week. I open up the program and I start with the Backup Drivers option. This is important because there’s always the possibility that a new driver can have some bugs that can cause errors.
- The next step is to click on the Update Drivers option. This is where the program will scan it’s real-time updated database of drivers for my the exact one that meets the criteria for the hardware I have on my computer.
- Driver Genius will then give me a list of available updates that I can choose to download and install right from the software itself. It will show me a status window with the progress of the download in real-time.
- Once completed, you can click on the My Downloads option and run each update that Driver Genius had just downloaded for you. It’s pretty simple and doesn’t take much time at all. If I find one of the new drivers has problems, I simply restore the old version and wait for a couple weeks before I update it again.
Again: When you first open the program, be sure to back up all of your current drivers – developers occasionally release bad drivers that can cause slowdowns and errors. It’s best to have a back up in case of this happening so that you can restore to the previously working version.
You may have noticed in the image above the Live Update button on the left-hand side. This is the button that you’ll be wanting to press at least once per month as it is what updates that actual Driver Genius software.
If Avanquest releases any updates to the program, you’ll want to have them when you can get them. So be sure to check periodically.
